Rotterdam A to Z

O - Oude Haven
Means Old Harbour is the oldest port in Rotterdam. Although Oude Haven is not used as a habour anymore but it has been keeping as a historical spot in the city. The area is along to the channel from Blaak to Oostplein.
No more busy harbour with ships travelling in and out, Oude Haven is nowadays known as a “going out” spot with cafeterias, pubs and terraces next to each other. Sitting outside in cool summer breeze and sunshine to enjoy a cup of coffee or chatting with friends and escaping from all noises of the city are basically what people come here for. If you want to check it out, you are recommended to come here at night. It is so beautiful with thousands of colourful lights hanging along the channel, the reflection of them in water makes it even more sparkle.
This area becomes one of the most famous attraction of Rotterdam not only with the oldest harbour but also a lot of interesting architectures. Het Witte Huis - The White House (45 meters high) used to be the highest office building in The Netherlands. This is the only building left after the bombing in the war in the area. With beautiful decoration figures the more than 100 years old building still attracts people even though time takes its young away. In contrary to old architecture of the White House, The Cubic house, the Pencil building and Blaak metro station are symbols of a Modern Rotterdam. Being built from inspiration of symbolism, these buildings are against traditional structural design. Each architecture marks the development of the city over time.
