Rotterdam A to Z - D

D - Drugs

Drugs

I’m not sure if in the Netherlands the definition of drugs is different
then the rest of the world, or maybe the division into drug classes is
more specific, whatever the reason, there are a few drugs you can buy
at local shops. (and im not talking about Advil)

Rotterdam follows the rest of the Netherlands on offering some
substances which are considered illegal almost everywhere else in the
world. its funny, many foreigners think that it is only allowed to buy
and use 'soft' drugs in Amsterdam.

So on one hand you have your coffee shops and on the other the smart
shops. (Nothing smart about the smart shops and no coffee in the coffee
shops).

Just a reminder - there is no alchohol consumption in coffeeshops.

To name but a few coffeeshops:

"Out of time" - good name., (Nieuwe Binnenweg 363a)

"The Act" - 2 floor with games and pool and foozball, located in the
city center - 15 minutes from everywhere (Westewawgenstraat 80)

"Witte de with" - Renovated shop, (Witte de Withstraat 90-92)

"Sky-High" - (nieuw Binnenweg 39a)

Smart shops are a whole different story. they look much cleaner and
neat, some look like pharmacies. Don’t let the looks fool you though,
some of the products here can drive you mad. Smart shops usually sell a
large variety of products like: Smoking accessories, Energizing pills,
Health supplements, Natural Speeds, Herbal ecstasy, and Psychedelic
Mushrooms (and much more).

Not that many in Rotterdam:

Apollyon - Dortsestraatweg 434a

Please give us your defenition of drugs, and your classification, if you support any. To me it seems a quite incomplete treatment of the drugs issue. Maybe try to speak seriously about ecstacy if you write your next column starting with an E.

dear columnist,
