The Asian Dream (Part 2)

“Ah, there she is” and he points at a lady who could make an elegant entrance anywhere, her confidence is all over her, on her face, on her outfit and most definitely on her bag.

After a short introduction we walk into a precious building, the old China Bank building. I’m deeply impressed by the decorations when we walk into this place, old… chique and full of history. What used to be a simple bank is now one of the most exclusive, member-only restaurants.

Somehow she managed to live the life she wanted, I ask her for her secrets behind her success, “I get what I want… by courage and confidence” she told me. “I wanted that job” she explained to me, “So I tracked down the president of that company and walked into the meeting where he was at and got the job” she smiled.

Here its not strange to dream and to do anything to get there, it’s a fast and intense life people are living. I hate to read newspapers here, not only because I don’t get all the characters but especially of the cruelty. My grandparents believe that it’s a bad world out there, its dangerous and cruel. Its hard not to believe since newspapers and magazines are full of horror.

“He definitely is hitting on you” my little sister noticed. We are in the Cyber café trying to chat with our friends. Making friends here wasn’t that easy, people were to busy or just didn’t care. Suddenly a voice behind my shoulders scared me, “You girls like R&B?” he asked friendly. I guess he just needed to make conversation since we were already listening to R&B for over an hour already. “Yeah.. “ we answered him. He definitely didn’t look local.

When I opened the doors for my grandparents I saw a familiar face at the elevators. “No… this is not happening” I thought. I walked back in to wake my little sister. “You will never guess who lives across the hall” I asked her giggling. It was the guy from Cyber, it a small world huh?
He was in Hong Kong, born in Canada, trying to become actor, he and probably thousand others. “I have tried about anything” he told us. Its funny that a dream can make you end up in a Cyber café.

“Have you read today’s newspaper already” my uncle asked me. I knew exactly what he meant, a beautiful young girl was found dead, wrapped in a paper box. “How can someone be so cruel?” I wondered. She had many, many dreams….
She was killed by her boyfriend. So its true, love and hate really are that close. He loved her to death.
It’s hard to let go when the world around you is so stressful and intense. You can lose yourself so easily. She was just 22 and the one she loves stopped her forever from dreaming.
