Snoop Dogg's After-Party
Waiting for Snoop.
Like after many star performances at Ahoy, and after what I'd head was an amazing performance a Ahoy, Nightown organized an after-party for Snoop Dogg.
Slowly the place flled with fans, hip hoppers and security guards, awaiting the arrival of the king of pimps. only around 0200 did the place really fill up and reached a party atmosphere.
There were a few relly cool performances early on in the evening. A hip hop group from alkmaar called "Two Steps Forward", 5 girls and two guys showed everyone how its done and breakdanced the stage with sexy and energetic moves. They also had two kids with them breakdancing and flipping - showed everybody some really cool stuff.
Many people came straight after the concert, others arrived just for the after-party.
There were a few top class DJ's spinning records rnb and hip-hop which were really amazing. even though its not my music of choice, i knew that this isnt something you see everyday. One of them (DJ Jam) is part of Snoop's crew and spinned mixed and scratched for about 3 hours some really nice tunes. you could really get the "west-side" L.A hip hop feeling if you were only looking at the stage. If you looked only at the crowd however, it looked like a party constantly at 0500 in the morning where the crowd is already tired and the best dj had already left the building.
After 3 beers, a whiskey, and 5 hours it was pretty obvious that Snoop wasnt going to show up. ....what I say is.. So What?! dissapointng as it may be, whats the point of hosting class 'A' DJ's if people arent that into it. Besides many of the people just came back from the concert and saw Snoop for several hours so why not take all the energy from the concert and bring it to the dance floor back in town? especially when you have these world class DJ's with mixes and energy you dont see everyday.
He was really trying to wake up the crowd which was half awake. its not that the crowd was dead, here and there you could see buds of excitement and dance. some people trying, some trying too much but the most just waiting.
The feeling was of waiting room rather than a Snoop Dogg after-party, or at least thats the feeling that I had. how else could i explain the lack of energy and enthusiasm the whole evening??
Of course there were rumors that Snoop was in the building and that he would be out on stage any minute, but that minute never came, (Snoop was probably somewhere else enjoying legality issues),so i guess the party never really woke up.
Maybe, (i dont think so, but maybe) if the party was slamming, the king would have come out to play.
