BARS
Apparently, there isn’t a real differentiation between bars and pubs and cafes in Rotterdam (or is that in the Netherlands in general?) ill try to make that distinction. So a few places worth mentioning if you’re bar hopping in the city center would have to be: Rotown (www2.rotown.nl)half bar half café (has food) probably the best-known bar in the center of Rotterdam, big, comfortable place, has live acts during the weekends, always a great atmosphere and pretty good food as well. More towards the summer, the back yard (mainly for dining customers) roof opens up, making it a real nice spot for a light dinner.
“Bar P”: one of the first attempts to make a ‘designed’ bar in Rotterdam. High-class Cheeky attitude is what you’ll find in this New-Yorkish stylized bar, with all its white and light décor. It’s located on ‘witte de wit straat’, which makes it a place you’ll probably pass through anyway when you go out. Customers will be pouring on to the street (the place isn’t that big) which will make you wonder “hmm, whats going on over here?” You’ll go inside for a drink and be lured to stay by the glam and the fabulous. The bartender staff is all male which makes it an attraction for the ladies which makes it an attraction for the fellas. To see and be seen.
Dizzy Jazz café somewhat of a cornerstone in Rotterdam, has been active for a really long time, famous for its live jazz acts. Check out their website for the schedule of acts(www.dizzy.nl). Usually, every Tuesday the place is over crowded when people gather to see a live act, which all together creates a really cool atmosphere. It might be a good idea to come early though, so you can get table, you’ll be there for hours.
