Out of the Darkness and Into the Light

The apparently solar-powered city wakes up !

Amazing. the last couple of days we've been hit by some amazing weather, and everybody is in shock. i mean i also remember last year when it got hot , and the year before, but every time it seems like its happening for the first time. when i look at the sun now, its as if i have'nt seen the sun in a year.

The city looks completely different. its as if a huge blanket has been pulled off or Rotterdam, freeing our sun-thirsty soul. The streets are full of people, the cafes are full, we get a free Tiesto concert, and people in general seem more friendly and willing.

Its funny; when you check out Rotterdam on touristy websites, all the images are summer images (!) as if there is summer here all year long. In fact, we only get around 4 months of solar energy and are doomed to 8 months of darkness. I personally think we just should make more out of the winter. For instance: 1. so many tram stops are open to the rain and wind..... whats up with that?! for which city did they think they were planning those tram stops for?? for Miami ? (maybe they were only looking at Rotterdams pictures from the touristic websites). 2. Another idea is to really develop the take away services. (its whats going on in every other developed country except here!!). whats the problem of having better food delivered to your house??! not just shawarma or pizza!! so if people are forced to stay at home all the time, why not deliver things to them?? im pretty sure it would be successful. 3. A mall, ok ok we dont want to turn into the united states but why not have an indoor shopping mall? how stupid is the lijnbaan? does it fit rotterdams weather ? echt niet!!

whatever.... we're safe for the next 4 months, the weather will just get better now.

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and in the meantime IM SICK!!... great.....

I think we have such an open environment because Rotterdam has a great "bikkel"-mentality. The local government probably thinks we can handle some snow, rain and cold for around 8 months. But the seasons are changing, coming ten years the temperatures are rising, maybe we'll have some palmtrees then at the busstops?

It's so true, every time spring comes, it feels like something new. Probably some enharitance from the old days?
